A group of Manchester United fans sent a clear message to forward Marcus Rashford yesterday.
The 27 year old was recently left out of the squads that faced Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Head coach Ruben Amorim claimed that his exclusion was purely down to effort in training and that he had a future at the club if he wants it.
Nonetheless, Rashford gave an interview earlier this week stating that he was ready to seek a new challenge away from the club.
Therefore United have reportedly been looking at replacements such as Evan Ferguson and Nico Williams, and the Englishman has been linked to other clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Arsenal.
The academy product has largely had the support of match going fans even in spite of his poor performances and off the pitch antics, such as the bender in Belfast earlier in the year.
Nonetheless, that support seems to have suffered a significant erosion as of late and this was on show in the away end yesterday in the Carabao Cup defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
A group of fans displayed a banner which simply read, “Excuses. Ta ra Marcus.”
Of course a banner from one set of fans is not representative of an entire fanbase but it shows that the tides are turning, as such an incident a year and half ago would have been unthinkable of any United fan, never mind the most loyal who travel the length and breadth of the continent to support the club.
Rashford has also begun to lose support from the media and former players.
Both Gary Neville and Roy Keane backed Amorim’s decision to drop the underperforming forward.
All eyes will be on the announcement of the squad that welcomes Bournemouth to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon and whether Rashford will make a return or be isolated even further from the group. Feature image Michael Regan via Getty Images
