Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana wanted a new contract this summer, and his demands angered manager Ruben Amorim, according to The Athletic.
The Old Trafford club initially had no plans to sign a goalkeeper this summer, but Onana’s hamstring injury changed things.
Altay Bayindir was unconvincing against Arsenal in the first game of the season, and the club decided they needed an upgrade after Onana produced a poor performance against Grimsby Town.
The Turkey international did not cover himself in glory in the 3-2 win over Burnley at the weekend, and Man United will not achieve anything with error-prone goalies.
New signing Senne Lammens is not expected to walk straight into the starting XI, with Onana still backing himself to reclaim his place.
However, the 23-year-old is widely viewed as an upgrade on the current options available at the Theatre of Dreams.
Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez was also an option if a move for Lammens fell through.
However, the finances made a transfer tricky as Martinez earns more than Onana, while Villa would have demanded a transfer fee in excess of £30m.
Man United made no efforts to sell Onana despite interest from Monaco. They declined to advance in talks after they were told his price was at least £30m.
Onana’s representatives again checked if the Red Devils wished for them to seek exit options after the Fulham game. They were told not to, and the player remains a part of the club’s plans.
