Manchester United’s preparations for next season are on the brink of going into full throttle, with the club providing a big update.
United enjoyed a remarkable 2025/26 season in which they finished third and secured Champions League football after a two-year absence.
The momentum for United swung after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal and Michael Carrick being named as his replacement, initially on an interim basis.
In next to no time, Carrick implemented a positive and front-footed style of play that immediately got fans back onside. The result was that United embarked on a brilliant run that ultimately saw them bring back Champions League football to Old Trafford with several games to spare.
Carrick took charge of 17 Premier League games, winning 12, drawing three and losing just two.
His impact earned him the job on a permanent basis. In May, United confirmed that Carrick had put pen to paper on a two-year contract.
United’s attention is now on the ongoing summer window and preparing for pre-season. The club has issued a statement confirming when the players will return to Carrington for pre-season training.
United say, “We can confirm that our players will report back to Carrington from Thursday 9 July, ready to kickstart preparations for the much-anticipated new season.”
“The squad will begin as a mixture of senior and exciting Academy prospects, as is customary for summers featuring international tournaments.”
“The group will then grow in experience as international players start to return throughout July and early August.”
United have already wrapped up a deal with Atalanta for Ederson. The transfer is expected to officially get over the line after Brazil’s involvement in the World Cup.
The Red Devils have six pre-season fixtures to look forward to, as shown in the table below:
