Manchester United have reportedly made a big decision regarding their involvement in the upcoming January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

Ruben Amorim’s admission

During the summer, United focused most of their efforts on bolstering their attacking department after a goal-shy 2024/25 campaign.

The club spent north of £200m on the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. United also snapped up goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.

United are expected to shift their attention to other positions in January and in the summer, with the midfield in particular a key concern area. However, last weekend, Ruben Amorim hinted that United could dip into the market in January for attacking additions.

Amorim made this remark after Benjamin Sesko sustained an injury during the 2-2 draw vs. Tottenham Hotspur.

The Portuguese coach also pointed out that United are in line to lose Amad, Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui for the duration of the Africa Cup of Nations, hence the need to offset their absences by recruiting.

However, Sky Sports report that United have no plans to be active in January.

The news outlet claims, “Manchester United are not expected to bring in any incomings in the January transfer window as things stand, despite losing players to the Africa Cup of Nations.”

“The club could move in January if a player becomes available – such as a target they are aiming for in a future window – however they are not expected to make a reactive signing based on three players going to AFCON, or the recent injury to striker Benjamin Sesko.”

Sky confirm that United are indeed keen on bringing in a midfielder in the summer.

Some of the names on the club’s wishlist include Carlos Baleba (Brighton and Hove Albion), Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest) and Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace).

United are next in action on November 25 when they welcome David Moyes’ Everton to Old Trafford.
