Manchester United have raised concerns to the Premier League over their scheduled fixtures.
This season has been an adjustment for many United fans with the club having no European commitments this year.
It is the first time since the 2014/2015 season that the club has had no Continental competition to enjoy.
United fans may have looked at one silver lining being they might get to experience some more traditional Saturday kick offs as a consequence but this does not appear to be the case.
The Athletic report that, “Manchester United have spoken to the Premier League to express their concerns about the number of midweek games they are scheduled to play between now and Christmas.”
Unbelievably, “in the 12 weeks between October 5 and December 25, United will play only one home match on a weekend — against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.”
November’s kick off versus Everton after the international break is scheduled for a Monday.
As is the December fixture against AFC Bournemouth. The home clash against West Ham United in the final month of the year is also currently planned for a Thursday night.
The club view these times and days as more complicated for their supporters to attend than the traditional weekend afternoon games.
The article states that, “United CEO Omar Berrada has spoken to Premier League counterpart Richard Masters outlining the club’s position. Sources briefed on the situation have told The Athletic that they had a constructive conversation, with United keen to stress the cultural importance of match-going fans to the fabric of the English game.”
United also expressed concern over the lack of preparation time supporters have to organise festive fixtures with broadcast details often changing times and days without much warning before the game.
They express that fans will often have significant family commitments around that time of year and should be told significantly more in advance.
