Manchester United have made a decision on a potential January swoop for rising RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande.

Having missed out on Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City, United are now casting a wider net, with Diomande emerging as a target.

Diomande is enjoying a breakout season at Leipzig, attracting interest from a number of Europe’s elite clubs. He has scored six goals and provided an additional three assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances. The rapid winger also enjoyed a fantastic AFCON, where he struck up a lethal partnership with United’s Amad, before the Ivory Coast’s elimination.

There have been suggestions that United have already tabled proposals for Diomande.

In addition to the Red Devils, he also continues to be linked with other heavyweights such as Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

As the race for the 19-year-old heats up, an update on United’s pursuit has emerged.

Diomande update

United are not expected to be busy in the market this month, but Sky Sports reveal that the club will not hesitate to sanction a swoop for Diomande if rivals step up their chase for his services.

Sky note that United have no plans to move for Diomande before the close of the winter window but their hands could be forced if PSG, Tottenham or Bayern Munich advance their interest.

Meanwhile, it appears Tottenham only have a remote chance of landing Diomande, which is undoubtedly good news for United.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham attempted to get a deal done for Diomande this month but their approach was rebuffed by Leipzig. The Bundesliga outfit have made it clear that Diomande will not be sold at least until the summer.

Romano said [as quoted by GIVEMESPORT], “Yan Diomande, this fantastic, electric winger from Red Bull Leipzig. Well, the message from Leipzig is that Diomande will not leave the club in the January window. They want to keep the player.”

“Eventually, in the summer, it’s going to be a different story, because Man United are sending their people to follow him. Paris Saint-Germain are sending their people to follow him. Bayern [Munich] are sending their people to follow him.”

Romano added, “Tottenham already tried for this January window. It was not possible. So there’s going to be plenty of interest for Yan Diomande, one of the most interesting wingers in the market right now. But for January, Leipzig want to continue with the player.”

United are next in action on Saturday when host Pep Guardiola’s City at Old Trafford.
