Manchester United have set their asking price to permanently sell academy goalkeeper Radek Vitek amidst his impressive loan stint with Bristol City.
Vitek has done well for Bristol, having joined the club last summer on a season-long loan from United.
He was initially signed by the Championship side to deputise the injured Max O’Leary, but he ended up making the starting role his own. O’Leary has since been unable to dislodge Vitek.
Vitek has kept nine clean sheets from 34 appearances in the Championship this season. He has conceded 45 goals.
He was a key player under Gerhard Struber, who made a public plea to keep him before he was recently sacked and replaced by Roy Hodgson. In an interview that came out a few days ago, Vitek discussed his progress and what the future may hold for him.
The 22-year-old made it clear that while his wish is to break through at United, he has no desire to return and simply be used to provide cover. Summer signing Senne Lammens is currently United’s undisputed starter between the sticks. The Belgian has transformed United’s fortunes at the back, bringing a calm and composure that was sorely missing under his predecessors.
Vitek stressed the importance of playing regularly at this stage of his career. If United are not in a position to offer him that, the club may be forced to let him go.
Now, a new report has claimed that United have set a price for the Czech shot-stopper.
According to Football League World, there is a belief that United want £10 million to permanently part ways with Vitek.
It’s understood that there is a chance of him staying at Ashton Gate, where he is already settled.
The report suggests that Andre Onana’s likely return may complicate matters for Vitek in addition to the difficulty of challenging Lammens for a starting berth.
However, nothing has been definitively decided yet, and the manager United eventually hire could give Vitek some hope of making it at Old Trafford.
