Manchester United’s official move to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson could be delayed after his late call-up for the 2026 World Cup.
Ederson has been included in the Brazil squad for the tournament after an injury to Roma right-back Wesley.
The 26-year-old had been overlooked for the initial squad, but will now link up with the Selecao in North America. He has won three previous caps for the South Americans but has not been capped since 2025.
Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Ederson for an initial fee of £35m from the Italian side.
The defensive midfielder is set to become Michael Carrick’s first signing as permanent manager, with Ederson targeted following Casemiro’s exit from Old Trafford.
United will hope to finalise the transfer imminently, though will have to wait for the new signing to return for pre-season after the World Cup.
The Red Devils have 12 players at the 2026 World Cup, with Ederson set to make that number 13 should his signing, as expected, be confirmed.
