Manchester United’s financial predicament and their inability to offer European football have made their search for a new striker very difficult.

Despite enjoying a transformative spell under Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP, Viktor Gyokeres has decided to join Arsenal due to Champions League football. Liam Delap, meanwhile, picked Chelsea over United early in the summer.

Having refused to significantly lower his wage demands, Victor Osimhen appears on his way to Galatasaray. Meanwhile, Hugo Ekitike’s €100 million price tag is out of United’s reach.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have been “offered the chance to sign several free agents.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin pushing to join Manchester United

According to Givemesport, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one of the strikers offered to United.

The Englishman left Everton in June after failing to find an agreement over a new deal in Merseyside. He scored 71 goals and registered 22 assists in 273 games for the Toffees.

It is claimed United are his “long-term admirers” but they are “not on course” to hand him an opportunity to move to Old Trafford “even though he has been pushed in their direction.”

Manchester United wary of Calvert-Lewin’s injury record

United have no desire to hold talks over the terms for the 28-year-old striker and “any potential deal is off” as the club’s hierarchy “stopped short of engaging in prolonged discussions due to identifying his injury record as a major red flag.”

Once considered the heir to Harry Kane’s throne for the Three Lions, the England international lost his guaranteed starting spot at Everton due to frequent fitness issues.

He could only make 19 starts in the Premier League last term, scoring a measly three goals in the process.

As such, United have decided against making a proposal and are expected to look elsewhere to strengthen their attack.

At the moment, the Red Devils remain focused on signing Bryan Mbeumo. Interestingly, the Brentford right-winger is capable of playing as a centre-forward.
