Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea, making him the club's first arrival of the summer transfer window under new head coach Michael Carrick.
The 22-year-old joins the Red Devils in a deal worth an initial £48 million, with a further £2 million in performance-related add-ons. Chelsea have also negotiated a 10 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Santos has signed a contract until June 2031, with the option to extend for an additional year, subject to registration.
United identified midfield as a priority this summer as they prepare for their return to the UEFA Champions League.
The Brazil international enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Stamford Bridge last season, making 43 appearances in all competitions while scoring three goals and providing four assists. He also featured 27 times in the Premier League, establishing himself as one of Chelsea's standout young performers.
Before earning a regular place in Chelsea's first team, Santos impressed during a loan spell at Strasbourg, where he captained the French side on several occasions and contributed 11 goals and five assists.
The former Vasco da Gama prospect now becomes Carrick's first signing as Manchester United begin reshaping their squad ahead of the new campaign.
