Harry Amass is being targeted by Championship sides for a loan move this summer.
Championship clubs are on high alert following Manchester United’s decision to not include Harry Amass as part of their squad for their pre-season tour of the United States.
According to journalist Simon Stone, there is loan interest from the second tier, as well as clubs from Europe.
Amass made his breakthrough into the Red Devils’ first-team squad last season, featuring five times in the Premier League, as well as twice in the Europa League.
But the 18-year-old could be set for a temporary exit this summer, with Ruben Amorim looking for the full-back to get regular game time away from Old Trafford.
Here we look at three Championship sides that should pounce and make a move for Amass before the 1 September deadline…
Preston North End could be a smart landing spot for Amass next season given the Lancashire outfit utilise a back three system under Paul Heckingbottom.
The similar role of left-wing-back will suit what Amorim wants from a loan spell for the youngster, given the importance of that position in his system.
The Lilywhites have brought Thierry Small in from Charlton Athletic this summer, and he could provide solid competition for game time in the position.
Andrew Hughes is also capable of taking on the role, but Heckingbottom may want to bring in a more specialised player for the position for the upcoming campaign.
Preston have also shown themselves as capable of developing young players, with former Man United full-back Alvaro Carreras a prominent example that could influence Amass’ future.
The Spaniard has just completed a move to Real Madrid worth €50 (£43.3) million, with his stint at Deepdale playing a role in his journey to the Bernabeu.
Leicester City have appointed Martí Cifuentes as their new manager, and the Spaniard will be keen to bolster his side this summer for a promotion push.
However, it’s unclear what kind of budget the Foxes will have, and thus a loan move for someone like Amass could be a smart way to bolster the side.
The 43-year-old also has a proven track record of giving younger players game time and improving them from his stint at QPR, which will encourage a club like Man United.
While Cifuentes will likely want to utilise him as a left-back in a back four, the possibility of playing regularly for a promotion challenger may prove more worthwhile than prioritising being in a back-three system.
With Victor Kristiansen set to leave this summer, left-back is a position that could use some strengthening, as they’d be left with just Luke Thomas to choose from otherwise.
Derby County could be a very smart option for Amass this summer given John Eustace does utilise a back three, and they currently lack wing-back options.
Craig Forsyth stepped into the role following Callum Elder’s injury woes, but the 36-year-old should not be relied upon to consistently play the role next season.
It also remains to be seen how long it will take Elder to fully recover from ailment, especially as players can be quite slow to get back to their best from troublesome injuries, even if they are capable of being back in the team.
