Kobbie Mainoo is looking increasingly likely to stay put at Manchester United following Michael Carrick’s arrival at the club.

Football Insider reports that the Englishman is believed to be happier at the club owing to a significant increase in playing time.

Had Ruben Amorim not been moved on earlier in the 2025/26 campaign, chances are the 20-year-old would be up for an exit in the summer window.

Kobbie Mainoo should sign a new contract at Man Utd

The report in question indicates that ‘the situation has totally changed’ with Carrick now holding the reins at Old Trafford, according to Pete O’Rourke.

Of course, you could forgive Mainoo for wondering just how long this latest set of favourable circumstances will last, given that Michael Carrick’s future at the club is not yet certain.

Assuming that the former Red was given the all-clear to lead the club going into the 2026/27 campaign, of course, one would imagine the midfielder would be at least open to the prospect of extended terms.

At any rate, all parties involved are understood to be prepared to open talks as we near the impending summer transfer window.

What do the stats say about Mainoo’s performances in the Premier League?

Kobbie Mainoo’s return to the pitch has coincided with one of the strongest runs for Manchester United in recent memory.

Six wins in eight Premier League games, with the footballer heavily relied on in each encounter.

It’s a small pool of data to work with this term (thanks in no small part to Ruben Amorim), but there are signs that the Englishman is returning to full confidence.

Mainoo may not be considered a “world-beater” at this point in time, but there’s more than enough talent there to keep any manager occupied.

Not that Carrick should be retained in the role purely to keep such a strong talent in the side, but keeping the midfielder in Manchester should be considered a top priority.

That needs to be impressed upon whoever is sitting in the dugout come August 2026, given the current stand-in’s departure could unsettle our young star once again.

Here’s hoping we can put any lingering issues over Kobbie Mainoo’s contract to bed.
