Bayer Leverkusen will demand a fee of €60m (£51m) to sell centre-back Piero Hincapie this summer, according to a report.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed another impressive campaign under the guidance of Xabi Alonso in Leverkusen and has made over 40 appearances for the third consecutive season with Die Werkself.

The Ecuador international has long been linked with Europe's titans given his immense quality and potential, while he's also proven incredibly versatile for Leverkusen, flourishing at centre-back and left-back for last season's Bundesliga champions.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both been touted with interest in Hincapie following another stellar term, while Real Madrid, who are already eyeing Leverkusen boss Alonso as their next manager, have also been mentioned.

But signing one of the Bundesliga's most promising talents won't come cheap and Florian Plettenberg has revealed that a release clause of approximately €60m must be triggered in order to acquire his services this summer.

It is claimed that a summer move for Hincapie has "not been ruled out" and that "enquiries have already been made", although Leverkusen are incredibly reluctant to lose the young defender this summer.

Liverpool are expected to sign another centre-half this summer - especially given Ibrahima Konate's contract situation - while Man Utd are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, with Hincapie having already thrived in the 3-4-2-1 formation Ruben Amorim favours at Old Trafford.

Madrid are also set to recruit at least one central defender given the injury woes of Eder Militao and the expected departure of David Alaba. They're likely to start their defensive overhaul this summer.
