Manchester United have their sights firmly set on securing the signature of breakout star Yan Diomande this summer.

That’s likely to be the case for a host of clubs, too, as the RB Leipzig starlet has quickly established himself as one of the most coveted attackers in Europe this campaign.

United facing competition from league rival for Diomande

Along with United, Tottenham Hotspur are one other English suitor sizing up a move for Diomande.

The Ivorian’s scintillating form has led to him notching a hugely impressive 11 goals and seven assists in only 1,963 minutes of action in his maiden Leipzig term.

He joined the Bundesliga outfit from Leganes last July in a deal worth just £17 million. Should Diomande depart after only a year, Leipzig stand to make a hefty profit – though they’d much rather keep hold of him long-term.

Club chief Marcel Schafer told Kicker back in January: “It is our aim to keep players with us for longer than just one year, because otherwise you don’t achieve any continuity.”

Yet, if the 19-year-old ‘phenomenon’ decides himself he wants to test himself in the Premier League and goes as far as handing in a transfer request, Leipzig may feel cornered into granting his requests.

It’s also yet another reason as to why United have to secure Champions League football for 2026/2027, as Diomande has yet to play in the competition and will be keen to get his first taste as swiftly as possible.

What one reporter is hearing about Diomande

Weighing in on the forward’s situation yesterday, Ben Jacobs told The United Stand: “The clubs in the race for Yan Diomande believe Leipzig are grandstanding, and the price they will hold out for will be between €60m (£51.7m) and €80m (£69m) rather than €80m and €100m (£86.2m).

“Manchester United and Tottenham are the Premier League clubs that are locked in on him.”
