Manchester United officials are due to fly out to Italy to talk to Lecce about signing Patrick Dorgu during the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.

The club representatives will also meet with Napoli about the potential sale of Alejandro Garnacho.

Manager Ruben Amorim wants to bolster his options at left-back and left wing-back, and Dorgu’s agent was spotted in Manchester yesterday for talks.

However, Napoli are looking to hijack the deal and have joined the race to land the 20-year-old Denmark international.

An agreement is close to being made between the clubs, with Napoli prepared to sign him and let him remain on loan at Lecce until the end of the season.

Man United remain very much in the race, and the dynamic could change if they were to offer around £34 million.

Selling Garnacho will help the Red Devils raise much-needed funds this month, and they will hope that can be done as soon as possible to help boost their chances in the race for Dorgu.

He could have the final say in the choice of his next club, and moving to the Premier League could appeal if Amorim successfully convinces him of the project he is overseeing.

Napoli are also a very attractive option as they are currently top of the Serie A table after 21 games and are looking to establish themselves as regular challengers for the title under manager Antonio Conte.

Dorgu has to make a decision he deems best for his career, and Man United’s recent struggles could see him opt to remain in Italy and join Napoli.
