Manchester United are already preparing for life after Harry Maguire, and his replacement could be Como youngster Jacobo Ramon.
On Thursday, Casemiro announced his departure from the club at the end of the season, as INEOS decided against renewing his expiring contract.
However, the Brazilian might not be the only experienced United star who will become a free agent by the end of June, as Maguire could also follow his teammate to the door.
Last season, the club exercised the option to automatically extend the defender’s contract for another year. But according to the Daily Briefing, the Sheffield native is highly unlikely to linger at Carrington beyond the current campaign.
In addition to predicting Maguire’s exit, the source also reveals that the centre-back has several suitors in the Premier League, including Chelsea.
The report admits that Stamford Bridge sounds like a ‘surprising’ destination, as the Blues have been almost exclusively signing young players. However, the West Londoners might feel the need to add some experience to their ranks and replicate Thiago Silva’s signing.
For their part, United will attempt to sign a young replacement for Maguire. British journalist Ben Jacobs reports that the club directors are monitoring several solutions, and one of them could be Como’s Ramon, although they face competition from other Premier League clubs, in addition to Real Madrid.
“If Maguire goes, of course, Manchester United might be in the market for another young centre back, particularly a left-sided centre back, but much of these centre backs now are just as comfortable on the left or on the right,” said Jacobs during his appearance on the United Stand (via the Centre Devils)
“Like Tottenham and Chelsea, Jacobo Ramon is one name they quite like. He’s capable of playing on the right and on the left as well.”
Born and raised in the Spanish capital, Ramon joined Real Madrid’s academy at a tender age. He made a name for himself last May by scoring a last-gasp winner against Mallorca in a LaLiga contest. Carlo Ancelotti had only given him the chance due to a major selection crisis at the back.
Last summer, the 21-year-old joined Como, who are the fastest-rising powerhouse in Italian football. He has already cemented himself as a regular starter in Cesc Fabregas’s lineup, and he’s been one of the best revelations in Serie A this season.

The youngster only cost the Lombardian club €2.5 million, but Transfermarkt estimates his current value at €18 million.
Nevertheless, Real Madrid reserved themselves a buy-back option, and Jacobs believes they could well decide to activate it next summer.
“I think Real Madrid might utilise their buyback clause in the summer and pry him away from Como.”
