Manchester United should pursue a deal for Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
The Red Devils suffered a 1-0 loss to Arsenal in their Premier League curtain-raiser on Sunday.
The Mancunian giants dominated proceedings against the Gunners at Old Trafford and had the better of the north London outfit in almost every department.
Despite this, they were on the losing side. Altay Bayindir’s misjudgement from a corner allowed Riccardo Calafiori to score with an easy header in the 13th minute.
Some United fans may feel William Saliba fouled Bayindir in the lead-up to the goal, but the Turkish ace should have been more commanding between the sticks.
Andre Onana was not in the matchday squad for the game, but the Cameroonian star has also been unconvincing when it comes to handling crosses into the box.
United clearly need an upgrade on the duo and should pursue a deal for Lammens.
The 23-year-old had a wonderful breakthrough campaign with Antwerp in the Belgian top-flight last term.
Lammens made an average of 4.3 saves per league appearance with a success rate of 77 percent.
Alongside his strong reflexes, he was a dominating presence in the box with several high claims.
The Belgian also proved that he is a penalty-saving specialist, saving four out of eight spot kicks.
Aside from these traits, he averaged 26 passes per outing with more than seven long balls.
The shot-stopper is a complete package and could be signed on the cheap this summer.
Antwerp have already signed a replacement in Taishi Brandon Nozawa, and the club are open to parting ways with Lammens for £13-17 million before the transfer window closes.
For the price mentioned, it appears a no-brainer decision for United to recruit him. His arrival may coincide with one of Onana or Bayindir leaving the club before the deadline.
The Red Devils need to be proactive in the player’s pursuit, considering Inter Milan see him as a ‘serious target‘ and are set ‘to enter’ talks with Antwerp regarding a potential transfer.
