Manchester United are weighing up a double move for Leicester defender Ben Nelson and Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, according to the Daily Mail. Nelson, 22, made 24 appearances as the Foxes were relegated from the Championship last season.
He began as fourth-choice behind Jannik Vestergaard, Caleb Okoli and Wout Faes. An assured display at Derby County in December earned him a run.
He then started 20 straight league games before a 3-1 home defeat to QPR in March. At fault for the opener and scoring an own goal, he did not start again.
Gary Rowett, who had worked with Nelson at Oxford United in 2024/25, dropped him for Watford late in March, preferring Jamaal Lascelles and Okoli. He was left out of the squad for the final five matches, with Vestergaard, Okoli and Lascelles selected.
In February 2024 Enzo Maresca praised Nelson’s potential and wanted more bravery on the ball. Manchester City have also scouted him.
The report added neither Nelson nor Charles would be immediate starters, with United targeting depth around their youngsters. With interest growing, Nelson may not stay at the King Power as Leicester prepare for their first League One season in 17 years.
