Manchester United have no plans to negotiate a fresh loan deal with Barcelona for Marcus Rashford.

According to ESPN, the club will reject any approach from the Spanish side for another temporary stay. They want a permanent solution instead.

The decision follows a missed deadline. Barcelona had until June 15 to trigger a €30m (£35m) option to sign the forward outright. They let it pass, and United have made clear a new loan is off the table.

Rashford is now set to return to Carrington after the World Cup. United are actively seeking a permanent buyer, with intermediaries invited to bring realistic proposals.

Boss Michael Carrick has not entirely ruled out reintegrating him, though that looks unlikely.

The player himself has not given up on Barcelona. Sources say Rashford still hopes to rejoin the LaLiga champions, where he rebuilt his reputation last season.

He scored 14 goals and added 14 assists in 49 games as Hansi Flick’s side won the title.

Barcelona’s change of heart is rooted in their own business. They agreed an €80m deal for Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, who plays in Rashford’s preferred left-wing role.

With Gordon set to start, they no longer rate Rashford at €30m and see a squad player as worth far less.

That stance has complicated United’s own window. They are hunting a left winger and admire West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville.

United are also keen on his Hammers teammate, Mateus Fernandes, as they look to rebuild Carrick’s midfield and attack.

For now, a standoff looms. Barcelona want Rashford back on cheaper terms, United will not drop their valuation, and the forward is caught in between with his Old Trafford future unresolved.

Currently, his focus is on England duty. Rashford is in the United States with Thomas Tuchel’s squad and made an immediate impact in their opener.

He came off the bench to seal a 4-2 win over Croatia on Wednesday, curling home the fourth goal after a clever Bukayo Saka assist.
