Manchester City 2 (Erling Haaland 58′, 63′)

Everton 0

Here are the City player ratings as Manchester City beat Everton 2-nil off the back of a second half Erling Haaland brace at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola’s side had to work for the three points, as Everton put in a determined display until Erling Haaland broke the game open.

Erling Haaland won the game for City, but Phil Foden, Nico O’Reilly and Nico all put in quality displays for their team. Manchester City have extended their unbeaten run to eight matches off the back of today’s win and they are growing into the 25/26 season nicely after a slow start to the season.

City player ratings

Gianluigi Donnarumma-7/10: Made one crucial save, but his work with the ball at his feet stood out today.

Matheus Nunes-7/10: Defended well and offered plenty in possession. Another good display from Nunes.

Ruben Dias- 7/10: Defended well and held his own in the physical battle with Beto.

Nathan Ake-6.5/10: The Dutch international looked rusty at the beginning of the game but grew into the game as it wore on.

Nico O’Reilly-8.5/10: Another brilliant display from O’Reilly. Defended well and offered a threat going forward for his team. Grabbed an assist and was always willing to drive forward from left-back.

Nico-7.5/10: I thought Nico played exceptionally well in the heart of Manchester City’s midfield. Won his duels when required and was tidy on the ball. Is fast becoming a crucial part of Pep Guardiola’s side in Rodri’s absence.

Tijjani Reijnders-6.5/10: Had some real moments of quality throughout the game before being substituted.

Savinho-7/10: For an hour, Savinho put in a frustrating performance. But the moment he switched to the left wing, he came to life. Grabbed an assist for Erling Haaland’s second goal and was infinitely more dangerous on the left wing rather than the right.

Phil Foden-8.5/10: Foden set up both of Manchester City’s goals with excellent passes. He started the game slowly like his team, but come the final whistle he was one of the best players on the pitch.

Jeremy Doku-5.5/10: Not Jeremy Doku’s day at all. His end product was poor and he had a tough time being double marked before being substituted.

Erling Haaland-9/10: Goals win games and Erling Haaland decided today’s game with his goals. The only reason he didn’t get a 10 is due to the 3 chances he squandered late on to complete a hat trick. But that matters little as Haaland settled today’s match with his brace.

Substitutes

Oscar Bobb-6/10: Had some real moments of quality after coming on, but couldn’t get on the ball as much as he would’ve liked.

Bernardo Silva-7/10: Manchester City’s captain did all the dirty work for his team after coming on. Tracked back well and brought a sense of calm to his team.

Rico Lewis-N/A: Not on long enough to mark.

Mateo Kovacic-N/A: Not on long enough to mark but it was good to see him back on the pitch and moving well.

Rayan Cherki-N/A: Not on long enough to mark but he had some nice touches in his return.
