Manchester City have this week confirmed that the Club has recorded its third highest revenues in the organisation’s history in the 2024/25 season.
The latest financial update arrives after a campaign that proved challenging on the pitch by the club’s own lofty standards, as Pep Guardiola’s side ended the season without silverware for the first time in eight years.
Despite that sporting outcome, Manchester City’s off-field performance once again underlined the scale and resilience of the operation built at the Etihad Stadium over the last decade under the club’s ownership.
Central to that resilience has been a long-term strategy focused on spreading income streams across commercial, matchday, and broadcasting revenue, rather than reliance on short-term success alone.
That approach has helped Manchester City remain financially robust even during periods of transition or underperformance on the pitch, something the latest figures appear to reinforce. Alongside the financial numbers, the 2024/25 season has been framed internally as one of consolidation and long-term positioning.
As confirmed by Manchester City on Tuesday in its 2024/25 Annual Report, the last season delivered the third highest revenues in the Club’s history despite Pep Guardiola and his players not securing silverware for the first time in eight years.
Manchester City’s “long-standing approach to revenue diversification” was reflected in the Club’s main income sources remaining stable, as they confirmed revenues of £694.1 million, as well as a marginal loss of £9.9 million.
Looking back on the last season, Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said, “I believe that we may look back on this year as one that was pivotal for the ongoing and long-term strengthening of the Club.
“Our focus on continuous improvement did not diminish in any way, and the season saw everyone across the organisation remain committed to the ongoing evolution of Manchester City both on and off the pitch.”
Al Mubarak continued, “There is no doubt that last season’s football results were less than we had hoped for. There are clear and understood reasons for that, including an unfortunate run of significant injuries, but seasons like this are an inevitable part of the game.
“In the world’s most competitive league, no team can expect to win every year, and I am confident that the lessons from the challenges that we have faced over the last 12 months will only make us stronger as a Club; and make our future successes even more rewarding.”
Chief Executive Officer, Ferran Soriano also added as part of the club’s statement, “The Club’s fundamentals continue to be very strong, and we remain firmly committed to our long-term strategy built on beautiful football, operational excellence, community impact and continuous innovation.
“As a demonstration of this commitment, we saw Erling Haaland and PUMA sign long-term contract extensions with the Club. We endured a difficult season from which we learned a lot, and whatever success we achieve in the future will be, in part, thanks to the learnings and the character we developed under difficult circumstances.
“‘Win or learn’ as we often say to ourselves. We look to the future with ambition and determination, convinced that we have the systems, people and culture in place to continue our ambitious journey.”
Beyond the headline figures, the Annual Report also reflects continued progress on major infrastructure projects, including the extensive North Stand redevelopment of the Etihad Stadium and its entertainment district, alongside investment into the women’s game at the City Football Academy.
Those projects are designed to strengthen matchday revenues and enhance the club’s long-term global appeal.
With a renewed focus on stability, recovery from injury disruption, and lessons learned from a difficult campaign, Manchester City will now look to translate financial strength back into success on the pitch.
As Pep Guardiola prepares his squad for the next phase, the club’s leadership appear confident that the foundations remain firmly in place for a return to sustained silverware.
