In a recent report, The Athletic stated that Manchester City are set to re-sign Burnley keeper James Trafford this summer. It has been mentioned that the Mancunian giants are about to bring the English goalie back to the Etihad Stadium this off-season.

Trafford’s Impressive Form In The EFL Championship

Trafford had a solid campaign at Turf Moor recently as he helped Burnley earn a promotion back to the Premier League. The 22-year-old made 45 appearances for the Lancashire club last season, conceding 16 goals and keeping 29 clean sheets across all fronts.

The English talent was the best keeper in the EFL Championship in the previous campaign. He even distributed possession relatively well after making 73.3% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Burnley will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for Man City to snap him up on the cheap in this transfer window.

Is Re-Signing Trafford A Good Move For Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola?

Trafford can be a safe pair of hands at the back as he has got quick reflexes that help him pull off a few solid saves for his team. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when needed and is a good handler of the ball as well.

The English keeper has got a lot of experience in English football. However, there are some concerns over whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Man City manage to get a deal done for him this off-season.

We can expect Trafford to inject more quality into Pep Guardiola’s backline. He is more than capable of nailing down a regular first-team spot at the Mancunian club next season.

Trafford would also serve as a decent replacement for Ederson at Man City. At 22, the future looks quite bright for the English custodian as long as he continues to improve with each season. Therefore, it seems like a good move for Man City to re-sign Trafford before the end of this transfer window. All in all, Guardiola should go for a keeper of his quality as he could help the Mancunian club earn a lot of major trophies in the future.
