Denzel Dumfries hinted that he wouldn’t mind playing in the Premier League at some point, and Manchester City have reportedly laid eyes on him ahead of January already. The Sky Blues are considering bringing in an offensive-minded right-back to round out their squad, AS informs (via Tuttomercatoweb).
When asked about it while he was with his national team during the recent break, the star replied:
“The Premier League is a fantastic competition, but I’m in Serie A now. I’m comfortable, but I think I could also fare well there. I’d surely be interested.”
Foreign teams had the chance to lure Dumfries by triggering his €25M release clause in July, but no team, including Manchester City, really came forward. The suitors will have to negotiate with Inter if they want to sign him in the next window.
The Nerazzurri brought in some competition by acquiring Luiz Henrique from Olympique Marseille for €25M. However, the Dutchman has maintained a firm grip on the starting job for now and has already opened his scoring tally.
He’d likely already be in England if he really wanted to, but he probably didn’t attract suitors at a high enough level to entice him to depart. There aren’t many places to go after starring for a Champions League contender, but the Sky Blues are surely one of those. The succession plan didn’t happen right away, but the large investment in another high-profile option in the same role suggests that he might not be long for San Siro. His release clause was a proper bargain, and he has corrected many defensive and focus-related flaws during his time in Serie A.
