Manchester City fans are urging a U-turn on James Trafford’s exit after Gianluigi Donnarumma’s pre-season error, with Leeds United closing on a club-record deal.
According to Leedsunited.news, Leeds are finalising an agreement worth an initial £45m to bring the 23-year-old to Elland Road. Trafford wants consistent first-team football after acting as Donnarumma’s understudy under Pep Guardiola and now Enzo Maresca.
City won 3-1 against K-League All-Stars in Seoul on Wednesday, 5 August, with Rayan Ait-Nouri scoring inside nine minutes. Kim Dae-won levelled three minutes later, beating the 27-year-old at his near post with a low effort. Tijjani Reijnders and Divin Mubama completed the scoring.
The equaliser sparked a backlash online, with many insisting Trafford, who recorded eight clean sheets in 17 City appearances last season, should not be allowed to depart.
Despite the stir, Leeds are set to confirm the signing in due course. Daniel Farke’s side need a new number one after losing Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow this summer, and view Trafford as a long-term solution. The package is seen as too lucrative for the Cityzens to resist and Elland Road offers the guaranteed minutes the youngster craves.
