The need for Manchester City to add more drive and creativity to their midfield this summer stood out during their nil-all draw with Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium. It’s arguably the biggest need Manchester City must address in the summer transfer window. Now, a new report from Mike McGrath for the Telegraph indicates that Manchester City are set to move for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders. He’d add exactly what Manchester City’s midfield needs if City do pursue a move for the Dutch international this summer.
Mike McGrath reports that Manchester City have made Tijjani Reijnders a serious summer transfer target. Furthermore, McGrath reports that AC Milan are braced for an offer for their midfield talisman this summer. McGrath adds that the Serie A giants would demand a fee of over £57 million to sell Reijnders. Lastly, McGrath reports that Manchester City are targeting players who can play every three days this summer. Tijjani Reijnders does fit this profile. The Dutch international has made 51 appearances for Milan this season.
What Manchester City need in midfield is a goalscoring midfielder. They also need more drive from midfield. As we saw against Southampton, Manchester City’s play was too pedestrian and one-paced. That stood out in the first half at St. Mary’s. A player like Ilkay Gundogan in his prime would be of great benefit to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Tijjani Reijnders is that type of player, although he does have weapons of his own that would be of great benefit to Manchester City.
Tijjani Reijnders has scored 15 goals and added 5 assists this season for AC Milan. Those are exceptionally good numbers for a midfielder. Pep Guardiola’s squad has been short of goals this season. Especially from midfield. Reijnders would address this issue. The Dutch international also has a wide range of passing and gets around the pitch well. He is 26 years of age and is entering the prime of his career. Reijnders is also a versatile player who can play as a number 8, a number 10 and as a number 6 when required. He ticks every box required of a potential City signing.
It now seems that Manchester City could move for Tijjani Reijnders this summer. With AC Milan demanding at Keats £57 million to sell the Dutch international, that does represent a fair price for a quality paper. The AC Milan midfielder would be a good addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad, so City’s reported interest is now a story to watch for ahead of the summer transfer window.
