The Athletic reports that Manchester City have made an opening offer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, which Forest have rejected. City remain in pursuit and Forest will seek the best possible terms if he leaves this summer.

Recent midfield transfers for Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Declan Rice topped £100m, with Arsenal’s £105m Rice package in July 2023 viewed by some as the guaranteed figure to beat.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak spoke at UEFA’s Champions League dinner in Budapest last Thursday, though there is no suggestion they discussed Anderson.

Manchester United have also held interest, but have long maintained they would not meet Forest’s expected price.

Anderson is with England at a training camp in Florida for this summer’s World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and is set to play a key role for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Forest were not actively looking to sell, yet there is reluctant acceptance he is likely to depart. He has three years remaining on his contract.

He joined from Newcastle United in a £35m deal that also sent goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos the other way, with the Englishman valued at £15m in that transaction. He has made 92 Forest appearances, including 50 this season.

City value elite English talent for homegrown reasons and Premier League readiness, and Anderson is viewed as Bernardo Silva’s replacement. He took 14 per cent of Forest’s Premier League touches in 2025-26 and delivered four goals and four assists.
