One player who could be the perfect addition to Manchester City’s midfield is Atalanta midfielder Ederson. The Brazilian midfielder has all of the required attributes to strengthen City’s midfield. Jack Gaughan has previously reported for the Daily Mail that the Brazilian midfielder is a January target for Pep Guardiola’s side. Now a new report indicates that it could prove to be a costly operation for Manchester City to sign Ederson from Atalanta. But you do get the impression that it be a price that Pep Guardiola’s side may simply have to pay to sign the Brazilian midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update via his exclusive newsletter for GIVEMESPORT on how complicated a deal would be for any club to sign Ederson. Romano reported that it cost well over €50 million to sign the Brazilian. He explained: “It’s very difficult to sign Ederson in January, more than complicated. Atalanta sources guarantee €50m reported fee is not even gonna be enough. He’s on the list of four or five clubs, but I don’t think it’s gonna be easy in January… at all.”
Watching Manchester City’s 4-1 win over West Ham yesterday you could see that City’s midfield lacked legs and energy. That’s a symptom of playing ageing players such as Mateo Kovacic, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva in City’s engine room. Those are attributes that Ederson would bring to Manchester City in spades if they were to sign him this month. But as Romano’s report indicates that is going to be no simple task. He is crucial to Atalanta’s play in midfield and has been one of the leading figures in their rise to the top of the Serie A table so far this season.
But as Fabrizio Romano has reported Atalanta would likely demand a sizable transfer fee to sell Ederson this month. That’s if they are willing to sell him at all. But if he is the player Manchester City feel would fortify their midfield it may be one they simply have to pay. The January transfer market is typically expensive and that is the reality that Manchester City are facing. But to solve their midfield issues they may have to spend big to get the player they reportedly crave.
There is still a lot to play out in the January transfer window. Who Manchester City may sign is yet to be revealed. Ederson is one player who would strengthen City’s midfield. But you do now get the impression that if they do want to sign the Brazilian they simply may have to break the bank to do so.
