Manchester City midfielder Laura Coombs will retire from playing professional football at the end of the season.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Cityzens this evening.

The 35-year-old has enjoyed a playing career that has spanned for almost two decades. Coombs started out with Arsenal before going on to turn out for Nottingham Forest, Los Angeles Strikers, Chelsea, Barnet, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Coombs joined latest club Manchester City in summer 2019. She has gone on to make 147 appearances for The Cityzens in all competitions, scoring several memorable goals. The midfielder has won both domestic cups with Manchester City.

After her retirement was announced, Coombs said “I’m so excited to be a fan of this team in the future. What they’re trying to build here, I think it’s incredible.

“The way Manchester City are putting our women’s team in a position to really go on and be successful long-term is so exciting. I’m very glad I got to play a part in that and I’m very excited to watch in the future.”

Manchester City fans will have the opportunity to pay tribute to Coombs this weekend when the club take on Liverpool at The Joie Stadium.
