Manchester City are considering a move to re-sign goalkeeper James Trafford, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Galatasaray recently tabled an opening offer to sign current number one Ederson as he enters the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

While City’s stance on Ederson’s future is yet to be decided, they are keeping an eye on Trafford, for whom they have a buyback clause.

Man City sold Trafford to Burnley for around £15 million in 2023, but he has since impressed with his performances in the Championship.

He helped Burnley secure promotion back to the Premier League with 29 clean sheets last season, conceding just 16 goals.

Trafford recently hinted that he would be ready for a step up to one of English football’s leading clubs if the opportunity arises.

“I think that’s where I’ve always been aiming for, the top of the Premier League,” he said in an interview on Ben Foster’s popular Fozcast podcast.

“Everyone wants to go there, everyone wants to play there.

“To get there, you have to play games, improve and then get to the level where you do go back to wherever I end up whenever I’m ready for it, and I’m the best equipped for it and ready to perform.”

Newcastle United have been linked with Trafford this summer, but their transfer plans could be scuppered once again.

Chelsea leapfrogged the Magpies in their pursuit of Joao Pedro, while Liverpool are set to beat them in the race to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
