Manchester City’s Rayan Cherki returned to formative club Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday, watching his former side beat OGC Nice 2-0 at the Groupama Stadium.

“It is nice to come back. A 13th win in a row is extraordinary. I am proud to see where Lyon are right now. I wish them all the best,” he told Ligue 1 Plus.

Paulo Fonseca’s side overcame Le Gym through goals from Corentin Tolisso and Noah Nartey. The result kept them on the Ligue 1 podium and made it 13 straight wins in all competitions, the best current run in Europe’s top five divisions.

Cherki left Lyon for Manchester City in the summer amid OL’s financial troubles. Since arriving for a fee of over €35m, he has scored nine and provided nine assists in 33 games in all competitions, consolidating his place in the France set-up ahead of the World Cup.

The forward came through Lyon’s academy and played 185 matches for the club, registering 29 goals and 45 assists. “I am trying to spend time where I am happy. That is important for me.”
