In a recent report, Bild mentioned that Manchester United are set to rival Arsenal for Red Bull Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko. It has been stated that the Red Devils are showing interest in recruiting the Slovenian centre-forward this summer.

Sesko’s Good Form In German Football Last Season

Sesko enjoyed a decent campaign at the German club after he put in a handful of productive displays as the focal point of their attack. The Slovenia international banged in 21 goals and grabbed six assists in 45 matches for RB Leipzig last season across all competitions.

The 21-year-old led the line well for Leipzig and deserves credit for attempting 2.5 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. However, he could only keep 43.9% of his shots on target. However, Sesko needs to work on improving his ball distribution up top, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 67.6% in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for Man United to land him on the cheap this off-season.

Should Manchester United Boss Ruben Amorim Go For Sesko?

Sesko is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates up top and has proven himself to be a lethal finisher in the Bundesliga.

Standing at 1.95m, the Slovenia international can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. However, he needs to find a way to improve his link-up play in the opponent’s half. Furthermore, there are some concerns over whether he can cope with the high intensity of Premier League football.

Sesko would add more firepower to Man United boss Ruben Amorim’s attack. He is more than capable of nailing down a regular first-team spot at the Mancunian club in the coming seasons.

Sesko would be an upgrade over Rasmus Hojlund, who has struggled to be consistent in the Premier League last season. At 21, the Slovenian talent has the potential to be a world-class forward someday. Thus, Amorim would be wise to go for a striker of Sesko’s quality and potential in this summer transfer period.
