Man United’s recent struggles at Old Trafford continued on Monday night as they were held by Bournemouth in a thrilling eight-goal thriller, missing the chance to move level on points with Chelsea in the table.

After Bournemouth had equalised almost straight from the restart, the Brazilian conceded the free-kick from which James Tavernier scored to put the visitors 3-2 up.

To compound matters even further, Casemiro was shown a yellow card for his foul on the Cherries forward. With that being his fifth individual booking of the season, the midfielder must now serve his second suspension of the campaign.

Casemiro was banned for the Brentford defeat earlier in the season after being sent-off in the 2-1 win over Chelsea.

As per the Premier League ruling, players who pick up five yellow cards in the first 19 Premier League matches of the season will receive a one-match ban. The threshold for a suspension after that point in the campaign is raised to 10 bookings after 32 matches.

Therefore, Casemiro will be unavailable for selection when United travel to Villa Park on Sunday afternoon to face Unai Emery’s in-form side.

Patrick Dorgu is the next Man Utd player in danger of being suspended as he is on four yellow cards, so must watch his step in the next three games against Villa, Newcastle and Wolves.

United will also be without Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui as the trio have now all joined up with their respective teams for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Furthermore, Ruben Amorim does not know whether Matthijs de Ligt or Harry Maguire will return from injury in time for the trip to Villa Park.

De Ligt has been sidelined since the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, while Maguire has not featured since limping off during the 2-2 draw with Tottenham before the November international break.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Amorim was asked for an update on the defensive pair as he left his post-Bournemouth press conference and admitted he was unsure if they would be available.
