Manchester United chief promises fans will be consulted on sale of Old Trafford naming rights | OneFootball

Manchester United Chief Operating Officer Collette Roache has promised supporters that their views will be sought regarding the potential selling of Old Trafford’s naming rights.

Last month, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were considering selling the naming rights to a refurbished Old Trafford or a newly-built stadium as part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s efforts to drive up revenue.

It was stated that United held exploratory talks with major financial institutions, including Bank of America over the funding options to cover the costs of a potential revamp of the stadium or building new grounds. Such a project would cost billions of pounds.

Under such an arrangement, the name of an organisation or company that United entered a deal with, would be used and displayed across either a revamped Old Trafford or an entirely new arena, depending on that separate choice.

Unsurprisingly, this proposal raised concerns among a section of the fanbase, who retain an emotional attachment to the iconic grounds.

ESPN reveals that COO Collette Roache told supporters at a fans’ forum this month that “all possible funding options” will be considered.

However, before a definitive decision is made, they will be consulted.

Roache is quoted as saying, ” You may have seen the media speculation around naming rights and it was just that; speculation.”

“We must look at all possible funding options, but it’s still early stages with no decisions made.”

“What we can promise is that fans, through this forum and other channels, will be kept informed and consulted every step of the way.”

Since Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed his partial 27.7% investment into United, work has already started on a £50m revamp of the club’s Carrington training complex.

The Red Devils also confirmed that the Old Trafford tunnel was also set to be subjected to improvements.

Roache remarked, “The players’ tunnel has not seen any major changes since it was opened in 1993 following the redevelopment of the Stretford End.”

“But when the players walk out against Fulham next month, they will find a much smarter, more modern tunnel interior.”

According to ESPN, United also poured cold water on suggestions that they would look to shift some competitive games abroad.
