Manchester United have confirmed the departure of full-back Tyrell Malacia on loan to PSV Eindhoven (via the club’s official website)

PSV will pay his whole salary and have an option to buy him for € 10 million in the summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

This represents a good deal for United. In addition to not paying his salary during the loan period, a 30 percent sell-on clause has been inserted into the deal.

Malacia has struggled since returning from the knee injury, which kept him on the sidelines last season.

He has featured in just eight games under manager Ruben Amorim, as he does not have the finesse to play as the left wing-back in his 3-4-2-1 formation.

With Patrick Dorgu’s arrival from Lecce, United needed to loan the Dutch defender out to give him more game time.

He was initially linked with Benfica, but the move collapsed, paving the way for PSV to sign him.

The 25-year-old has experience playing in the Eredivisie, having featured 98 times in the competition for Feyenoord before joining United. He should adapt quickly at PSV.

Malacia will have the chance to win his first league title with the Dutch side. They currently sit top of the league standings, two points ahead of Ajax.

He will compete with Mauro Junior for the first-choice left-back position. Junior has been a regular in the starting line-up, failing to start two league games while he has been fit.

The Netherlands international is unlikely to feature for United again due to the signing of Dorgu and the imminent arrival of Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon.
