The Red Devils’ interest comes as uncertainty over Valverde’s future continues to grow following a recent bust-up with Aurelien Tchouameni that left the Uruguayan requiring medical attention.
Despite his consistent importance under several Madrid managers—including former boss Carlo Ancelotti, who has described him as ‘sensational’—Valverde’s time in the Spanish capital could be nearing its end.
Reports from Spain suggest Valverde’s relationship with the Real Madrid dressing room has become increasingly strained, and a summer sale would not be opposed.
Consequently, United are closely monitoring the situation at the Santiago Bernabeu, with midfield reinforcements high on the agenda this summer.
Valverde’s athleticism, versatility, and technical quality would make him an outstanding addition to the Red Devils’ ranks if a deal can be struck.
The financial parameters of any deal, however, represent a significant challenge. Madrid’s official stance remains that Valverde is not for sale, though the hierarchy could reconsider if an offer in excess of €100 million is received.
Valverde is contracted until the summer of 2029, which gives Los Blancos considerable leverage in negotiations and limits the prospect of a cut-price departure.
Nonetheless, United’s qualification for the Champions League boosts their prospects of pulling off what would be one of the biggest moves of the summer.
Whether that is enough to prise one of Europe’s finest midfielders away from the Spanish capital remains to be seen.
Manchester United have also been linked with Tchouameni, who has been a target since his time at Monaco.
