The versatile wing-back has not played a game since being substituted in the second half of the 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford on September 20.

Mazraoui has been sidelined since then by an unspecified injury, with United head coach Ruben Amorim previously confirming that he would not be back in action until after the October international break, when they will look to build on the 2-0 home win over Sunderland last time out.

The Sun reported on Wednesday that the 27-year-old could feature against Liverpool at Anfield, having undergone medical assessments either side of joining up with the Morocco squad but not played in their recent matches against Bahrain and Congo.

However, Sky confirmed that he was not part of the United squad that trained at Carrington on Thursday, a group that included eight youngsters in Jacob Devaney, Tyler Fletcher, Shea Lacey, Sam Mather, Bendito Mantato, Reece Munro, Chido Obi and Jim Thwaites.

Also absent from training before the meeting with Liverpool was long-term absentee Lisandro Martinez, who has not played since February after undergoing surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered against Crystal Palace.

The Argentine defender has been stepping up his fitness and recent reports stated that he was expected to resume full training this week ahead of potentially returning either at home to Brighton on October 25 or for the trip to Nottingham Forest on November 1.

United captain Bruno Fernandes, Amad Diallo, Matheus Cunha and Casemiro also did not train on Thursday, having been given an extra day off following their international exertions this week.

Fernandes played just over an hour on Tuesday night as Portugal were made to wait to seal their World Cup place after a dramatic 2-2 draw against Hungary in Lisbon, in a game in which Cristiano Ronaldo became the top scorer in the history of World Cup qualification and Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai scored a stoppage-time equaliser.

Amad, meanwhile, scored a brilliant free-kick to set the seal on a dominant 3-0 win for Ivory Coast over Kenya, with their place at next summer’s World Cup finals in North America now secured.

Casemiro captained and played the full 90 minutes for Brazil in their 3-2 friendly defeat by Japan on Tuesday, with Cunha getting just under half an hour in Tokyo as a replacement for Vinicius Jr.

Young defender Ayden Heaven handed United a new injury scare last week, picking up an early knock playing for the England Under-20s against Switzerland at St George’s Park on Friday before being substituted at half-time.

Amorim will reveal the latest United team news when he addresses the media on Friday ahead of the high-profile clash with defending champions Liverpool, who have lost three games in a row across all competitions for the first time under Arne Slot and have concerns over the fitness of centre-back Ibrahima Konate.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker remains sidelined, while midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo have also dealt with knocks during the international break.
