Manchester United defender will have a role at this summer’s World Cup after all
Harry Maguire is set to feature as a guest on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast during the World Cup, after being left out of the England squad.
Maguire enjoyed a stellar season for Manchester United helping them finish third in the Premier League table following a remarkable turnaround under Michael Carrick from January onwards.
Furthermore, given his admirable record when representing England at previous major international tournaments, the 33-year-old was expected by many to be named in Thomas Tuchel’s final 26-man World Cup squad.
“I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had,” Maguire captioned the post. “I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision.
“I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players all the best this summer.”

Despite the heartbreak of his exclusion, Maguire will still have a role to play at the World Cup, as a featured guest on Gary Lineker’s podcast that he co-hosts with Alan Shearer on Micah Richards.
According to The Athletic, Maguire will be one of number of guests to appear throughout the tournament after the podcast landed a £14 million streaming deal with Netflix that will feature 40 scheduled episodes to be streamed daily on the platform.
It is yet uncertain whether or not Maguire will be present in person at the New York Studio which Lineker will be hosting the show from.
