In a recent report, journalist Gaston Edul mentioned that Manchester United have made a concrete move for Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez. It has been stated that the Red Devils are in talks to land the Argentine keeper as they look to strengthen their squad this summer.
Martinez enjoyed a solid campaign at the West Midlands club recently as he put in a run of influential displays for them in the Premier League. The Argentine talent featured in 53 matches for Aston Villa last season, shipping in 61 goals and keeping 16 clean sheets in all competitions.
The 32-year-old continued to perform at a high level for the Villans in the previous campaign. He was also accurate when distributing possession from the back after completing 78.7% of his attempted passes in the Premier League (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at Villa Park will expire in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for the Red Devils to land him on the cheap this off-season.

Martinez can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the field. He is a solid handler of the ball as well.
The Argentine talent can use his quick reflexes to make a few solid saves at the back for his team. He is a tidy passer of the ball from the back. The Aston Villa goalie has got a wealth of experience in Premier League football and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Old Trafford.
Therefore, it makes sense for Man United to sign a keeper of Martinez’s quality and skill set as Andre Onana has been quite inconsistent for the Mancunian club so far.
The Argentina international would no doubt enhance the quality of Man United boss Ruben Amorim’s backline. He might even help the Red Devils compete for a European spot in the Premier League next season. At 32, Martinez has still got a few good years left in him to play at a high level. Thus, he would be a good option for Man United to pursue in the short term.
