Manchester United are planning ahead of Rangers’ visit to Old Trafford in a showdown described as the ‘Battle of Britain’.

A battle is expected on the pitch and perhaps on the terraces too, albeit unfortunately. This has forced United into some strategic planning three months ahead of the January clash.

According to the Daily Mail, United chiefs are concerned that supporters of the Scottish Premiership side could attempt to enter the home sections of the stadium.

This is essentially what happened last season in the Champions League when Galatasaray were the visitors. It created a safety hazard and it’s something the club doesn’t want to happen again on their watch. 2,000 Turkish supporters got into home section, and groups were seen cheering on their team.

United issued an apology to fans who felt unsafe as a result.

But will that be enough?

Tickets will be highly sought after with United only selling tickets to signed up members.

United reportedly view the game “high-risk” with the focus on keeping travelling punters in the away section.

It’s perhaps telling that they already feel that Rangers fans are going to try screw the ticketing system in place.
