Manchester United escaped any injury blows after the 3-0 win over Southampton, and Erik ten Hag has been handed an additional boost with Mason Mount returning to training with the rest of the first-team squad.
The only thing United are hoping to avoid this season is a bombardment of injuries.
That was easily the biggest struggle last season, along with results that rarely went our way.
United go into Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup third round tie against Barnsley with at least six absentees, and we’re only five weeks into the new season.
Mason Mount suffered with injuries a lot in his first season, ultimately failing to make much of an impression on the fanbase.
The England international started the season on a positive note, but an injury set him back again.
Now, we must await his return.
According to Steven Railston, of the Manchester Evening News, Mount has returned to group training and may return to action sooner than expected.
United are also waiting on the likes of Luke Shaw, Rasmus Hojlund and Tyrell Malacia to return from injury.
And, it wasn’t long ago that Victor Lindelof was spotted on crutches.
Mount returning gives Ten Hag more options which can only be a good thing. My only concern is if he picks up another injury in the near future. He can’t afford many more setbacks or his time at United will come into question.
It’s essential that we have our best players fit, as well as options to fall back on, for the sake of squad rotation, to have a successful season across multiple competitions.
With much to prove, I am looking forward to seeing Mount return to the side.
