Manchester United have been in talks with Bournemouth over the last few weeks to secure a deal for Antoine Semenyo.
The Red Devils face competition from Manchester City for the forward, while Liverpool could also enter the race in the winter transfer window.
Bournemouth do not want to lose Semenyo in the middle of the season, but they are powerless to prevent him from leaving due to the £65 million release clause in his contract.
United want to negotiate Semenyo’s release clause in instalments rather than pay the full amount up front. The use of instalments will help with cash flow.
The club focused on strengthening their attack last summer, signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
But they are currently without Mbeumo and Amad Diallo due to the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while Joshua Zirkzee has been linked to a move away.
The Red Devils could add another forward this winter, with Semenyo on their shortlist of targets.
The Ghana international has enjoyed an impressive 2025-26 season, bagging eight goals and three assists in 16 Premier League matches.
The 25-year-old is a versatile forward who can play on both wings and as a striker. He is highly rated for his pace, strength and directness.
