Jobe Bellingham’s story at Borussia Dortmund has so far been far from a fairy tale. Having arrived last summer for nearly €30 million after a successful season at Sunderland, the young 20-year-old English midfielder hoped to follow in the footsteps of his brother Jude, a hero at Signal Iduna Park. But his Bundesliga debut has proved much more challenging than expected. Seldom used by Niko Kovac, he has played just eight games in all competitions for a total of 281 minutes, with only three starts and no decisive contributions. It’s a frustrating situation for a player who was promised a central role and who is now struggling to justify Dortmund’s substantial investment.

This sidelining hasn’t gone unnoticed by those close to him. Mark Bellingham, the player’s father, hasn’t hidden his displeasure at the German club’s unfulfilled promises. Even some legends in Germany are raising questions. Dietmar Hamann recently remarked that the young midfielder is “a long way from being as good as Jude” and even called him “a cause for concern” for BVB.

Against this backdrop, several English clubs are closely monitoring his situation. Manchester United, under the leadership of Ruben Amorim, would like to make him a key piece in their system, while Crystal Palace are reportedly ready to offer him more responsibility. While Dortmund doesn’t appear open to an immediate departure, the player, who is under contract until 2030, might soon be tempted to revive his career elsewhere. The upcoming transfer window could well mark a decisive turning point in his young career.
