Manchester United are scouting Southampton midfielder Shea Charles ahead of a possible summer move, according to the Daily Mail.
United are in the market for a replacement for Casemiro, and the Saints star has caught their attention as they prepare to strengthen their ranks.
Charles helped Southampton put Arsenal to the sword on Saturday, coming off the bench to score the winner and dump them out of the FA Cup.
The 22-year-old Northern Ireland international also scored against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup last September, and he could be perfect for Man United.
Charles is also on the radar of Everton, Rangers and two other Premier League clubs, and more suitors could emerge if Southampton fail to secure Premier League promotion at the end of the season.
His major strengths include aerial duels, passing, tackling and ball interception.
The Red Devils’ target is valued at around £20 million by the Saints, which is an affordable fee compared to what others on Man United’s radar would cost.
Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali and his Nottingham Forest counterpart Elliot Anderson are expected to cost around £100m or more.
Charles is unlikely to be a top target for Man United as he has largely plied his trade in the Championship, but he could emerge as a contingency plan if deals for their top targets fall through.
The Red Devils could also look to replace Manuel Ugarte, with Galatasaray, Napoli, Juventus and Ajax keen on him.
More midfielders are expected to be linked with Man United ahead of the summer transfer window.
Qualifying for next season’s Champions League would help boost their coffers and chances of attracting quality players.
