Manchester United want to sign a central midfielder in January and have added Conor Gallagher and Angelo Stiller to their list of potential options.
Ruben Amorim spent £216m on new additions in the summer window, with the predominant focus on the club’s forward line. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all arrived at Old Trafford, and the priority for the winter is to bolster in midfield.
Enquiries were made for Atletico Madrid midfielder Gallagher late in the summer, though a move failed to materialise.
The Red Devils remain keen on the England international, according to Fabrizio Romano, with Gallagher open to a Premier League return. The former Chelsea player has started just twice in La Liga this season and has lost his place in the England squad.
Stuttgart star Stiller is also on the club’s radar, though Romano revealed a January deal is unlikely. He believes the Bundesliga side will fight hard to keep Stiller until the summer at least.
“Conor Gallagher could be an opportunity, but Atletico Madrid didn’t want to let him go in August. So let’s see what happens in the January window,” Romano told GIVEMESPORT’S Market Madness podcast.
“Angelo Stiller is also a player they appreciate from Stuttgart, but I don’t see a German club selling one of the stars in the January window at all.
“So January is not going to be easy. It’s going to be about opportunities in the summer could be different. And for sure, Manchester United in 2026 will add again, at least one midfielder.”
