Marcus Rashford’s future could finally become clearer once England’s World Cup campaign comes to an end.
The Manchester United forward had been prepared to wait for Barcelona until the closing stages of the transfer window, but the Catalan club’s decision to sign Anthony Gordon has dramatically altered the landscape.
Unless Barcelona’s attacking options change before the end of the summer, Rashford now appears increasingly likely to remain at Manchester United.
Indeed, according to The Athletic (h/t SPORT), Manchester United’s stance has shifted considerably in recent weeks, with the club becoming more open to keeping the England international after finding it difficult to identify a suitable replacement on the wing.
At the end of last season, Rashford’s future at Old Trafford looked all but over. His relationship with the club’s hierarchy had deteriorated, making a departure seem inevitable. However, circumstances have changed.
The Red Devils’ priorities in the transfer market now lie elsewhere, with strengthening midfield considered more urgent than signing another winger.

Combined with Rashford’s performances over the past season, that has increased the likelihood of him being reintegrated into the squad. The club is now expected to welcome him back for pre-season, which would represent the first step toward a full return.
Although no final decision has been made, people close to the player increasingly believe Manchester United would rather keep Rashford than sell him at a reduced price during a transfer market that has slowed considerably because of the World Cup.
A definitive outcome is not expected until the middle of August, close to the end of the transfer window.
Despite the changing circumstances, Rashford continues to focus on only two possible destinations: Manchester United or Barcelona.
He is not interested in joining another club on loan and has no intention of entertaining temporary offers elsewhere.

However, Barcelona’s ability to revive their interest now depends almost entirely on one condition. The only realistic route to Camp Nou would be the departure of Raphinha.
Although the Brazilian has received lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, he has shown no indication that he wants to leave Barcelona, making such a scenario increasingly unlikely.
Rashford’s potential return has also received backing from inside Manchester United’s dressing room.
Defender Harry Maguire publicly expressed his support for the England international’s comeback.
“Yes, of course. I’ve had a great relationship with Marcus and shared many great moments with him over the years. I know what a wonderful player he can be,” he recently said.
For now, Rashford remains focused on England’s World Cup campaign, but with Barcelona’s interest fading and Manchester United softening their stance, a return to Old Trafford is becoming an increasingly realistic outcome.
