Despite those fantastic wins over Manchester City and Arsenal in his first two games in charge, the chin-stroking shrewdies reckoned the biggest test for new intermin boss Michael Carrick would be the home match with Fulham.

Manchester United seemed to be passing the test with flying colours when moving into a 2-0 lead. But then the pre-match warnings that it would be typical if United slipped up against less celebrated opponents came to pass as Fulham levelled with strikes on 85 and 90.

You sense that under Ruben Amorim, both the team and Old Trafford crowd would have psychologically crumbled, perhaps even conceding a third to lose the match.

But that connection to the past seems so strong under Carrick that United summoned up some 'Fergie-time' magic and struck a 95th-minute winner through Benjamin Sesko - a player previously short on confidence. Carrick, for now, can do no wrong.

Have Spurs turned a corner?

The atmosphere in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was extraordinarily negative as Tottenham fell 2-0 behind to Manchester City last weekend. It was as if everyone in the home crowd was expecting misery and the players were acting it out as scripted.

Every sideways pass was met with disgruntlement and after weeks and months of disappointment in Premier League games under Thomas Frank, everyone had had enough.

And then, against that backdrop of despair, came one of the most unlikely comebacks of the season. Tottenham were transformed after the break and grabbed a deserved draw thanks to a double from Dominic Solanke, his equaliser a sensational improvised scorpion kick.

Spurs can make a mark on United yet again

But only Arsenal and Aston Villa have managed more away wins than Spurs so there could be some value in backing Frank's men.

After all, despite the gloom and a league table that showed them finishing last weekend in 14th place, Tottenham have won two (Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt) and drawn two (Burnley, Man City) of their last four games.

A lay of Man Utd on the exchange certainly has merit if Tottenham can show the same spirit they did against City.

United have won their last two games in the 87th and 95th minutes so the margins have been fine.

And if going down the head-to-head route, Tottenham are unbeaten in their last six Premier League encounters against United - three draws and three wins.

You can actually stretch that to eight if adding in the (dreadful) Europa League final and the Carabao Cup while at Old Trafford, Tottenham's last two visits have resulted in a 3-0 win and a 2-2 draw.

In-form duo can shine on Bet Builder
