Red Devils have suffered a double injury blow ahead of Toffees showdown

Ruben Amorim will be looking to mark a year in charge of Manchester United by extending his side’s unbeaten run to six games at home to Everton on Monday night.

Amorim will, however, have to do so without the help of striker Benjamin Sesko, who has been ruled out for a number of weeks with a knee injury.

The Slovenian striker, who had just started to find his feet after a sluggish start to his United career, was withdrawn late on during United’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Tottenham before the international break.

In his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Amorim downplayed the severity of Sesko’s injury but admitted he did not expect to have him back fit until the start of December.

“He is going to stay a few weeks out. I don't know how long, but it is not that serious we have to be careful with him,” Amorim said.

“He is going to recover. He is doing the recovery and he is feeling better so we expect in a few weeks to have him back.

“I think it is going to be more or less he will be back at the same time as Amad and Mbeumo leave for AFCON. I don't want to say for sure, but when they are going to the camp, I expect to have Ben back.”

In Sesko’s absence, Amorim is likely to opt not to play with a recognised striker against Everton, with out-of-favour forward Joshua Zirkzee yet to start a game this season.

Harry Maguire has also been ruled out of United’s first game back after the internationals.

Kobbie Mainoo will be assessed in the coming days despite missing training on Friday morning, along with Sesko and Maguire.

Lisandro Martinez, meanwhile, could be involved in a matchday squad for the first time since February after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

After a disastrous first year in charge, United finally look to be on the up under Amorim, with just one point separating them from the Champions League positions heading into Monday’s game.

They take on an Everton side winless away from home since August, but Amorim is not underestimating the threat posed by David Moyes’ side.

“In our league, the table doesn't matter because everything is so tight that it is irrelevant. If you know the history of our team, you never know when it is a difficult game.

“So that [run of fixtures] is completely irrelevant in the Premier League.”

Predicted Manchester United XI (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Fernandes (c), Casemiro, Dalot; Mbeumo, Cunha, Mount.

Injured: Sesko, Maguire
