Ruben Amorim is expected to shuffle the pack as the Black Cats visit Old Trafford
Ruben Amorim’s squad has been boosted ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League meeting with Sunderland as Amad Diallo has returned to training.
Diallo missed last weekend’s defeat to Brentford due to a family bereavement, but is back in contention this weekend.
United will hope to get back to winning ways as they host the Black Cats, but newly-promoted Sunderland will not roll over at Old Trafford. They have made a superb start to the season, and sit fifth after six matches.
Having dropped more points in west London last time out, Amorim may be inspired to rotate. Diallo’s return is a welcome boost and he could slot back into the XI in place of Diogo Dalot.
Amorim was evidently unimpressed by his defence at the Gtech, and replaced two of his three centre-backs in the second half. As such, expect Leny Yoro to get the nod in place of Harry Maguire.
Kobbie Mainoo has been pushing to crack the starting XI for some time now. The 20-year-old replaced Manuel Ugarte after 66 minutes at the Gtech and had an impact, meaning Amorim could bring him in to refresh the midfield setup.
He could be pipped, though, by Casemiro, available again after serving a red card suspension.
Benjamin Sesko should reprise his role at striker after scoring his first goal in United colours against Brentford. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are expected to return as twin No10s behind him.
After another unconvincing performance from Altay Bayindir, summer signing Senne Lammens could be in line to make a long-awaited debut.
While it has been a challenging season for Amorim, he has, at least, been relatively lucky with injuries. Noussair Mazraoui (thigh) and Lisandro Martinez (ACL) are his only unavailable players coming into this match.
Predicted Man United XI (3-4-2-1): Lammens; Shaw, Yoro, De Ligt; Dorgu, Fernandes, Casemiro, Diallo; Cunha, Mbeumo; Sesko
