United prepare for Ruben Amorim’s arrival with comprehensive victory
Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho scored to ease Manchester United to a 3-0 victory over Leicester in Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s final game in charge.
With Ruben Amorim taking over as manager on Monday, the Red Devils cruised to victory at Old Trafford.
United captain Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring with a curling effort to mark his 250th appearance before forcing an own goal from Victor Kristiansen for the second.
Alejandro Garnacho then sealed victory for Van Nistelrooy with a stunning strike late on.
Fernandes was presented with a framed shirt to honour his landmark before the game, which United started very well.
Amad Diallo was involved in some strong early forays and turned provider for the opener.
Diallo’s back-heel into the path of Fernandes allowed the Portugal international space to set himself and fire home in the 17th minute.
United continued to dominate the first half and added their second before half-time.
Full-back Noussair Mazraoui put a dangerous cross into the box with Fernandes met, mistiming his header but causing an own goal from Kristiansen.
After the break, Van Nistelrooy brought on Garnacho for Marcus Rashford and had the Argentina winger to thank for their third.
Garnacho started the move by picking out Fernandes in midfield and received the ball back from his skipper before fashioning some space and curling the ball into the far corner.
Leicester struggled to make any impression on the game as the second half drifted away from them and the home crowd could celebrate victory with Ruben Amorim taking charge on Monday.
