Roma defender Gianluca Mancini was on the score sheet in Roma’s 3-1 win over Milan.
After Claudio Ranieri’s last appearance at the Olimpico, Mancini spoke to the media in his post-match presser.
“From the derby to today it has been truly something unique. The first half of the season with 23 points was just not good enough,” said Mancini.
“We always told ourselves to play game after game and to think like that too. The coach was good at helping us recover our mental strength. We are proud of how far we’ve come.”
“The group has always been united despite the September-November period but there was never any discussion. We wanted to get a result but football is like that. There are many factors that lead to winning but the coach has put a lot of his own into it in training and mentally.”
“Going to Trigoria with that stomachache due to the results was not easy. Ranieri arrived and gave us serenity and tranquility. The coach leaves us a stronger group of players.”
“What Ranieri says is true, there is no secret. Things were going well and he didn’t get too excited, when he arrived he always told us that we had to breathe even when we lost. He always wants the best and he was there even if sometimes we lost. No secret but a combination of things with an expert coach and we just have to thank him for what he brought us. We followed him all together and also the fans who were close to us and gave us that extra push. When we’re all together in it it is hard for the others. We will see each other next year here at the Olimpico.”
